About
Peru

There are many reasons that make Peru one of the most attractive countries in the world. Some of them are related to tourism and culture, artistic manifestations and traditions that have transcended its borders. Others are linked to the economic and social sphere, where the growth of the last decades translates into better opportunities for development.

Recommendations

Exchange students must have an international health insurance and have to send a copy of the policy or certificate issued by the insurance company. Universidad del Pacífico requests these documents as they will allow the exchange student to have access to a hospital or clinic if necessary. We recommend contacting the insurance company in order to find out the refund process in the event of an accident and/or illness.

Currency exchange, ATMs and safety in Lima

We recommend exchanging money in an Exchange House at the airport when arriving in Lima because only a few establishments (such as hotels or restaurants) accept Dollars or Euros.

If you need to exchange money during your stay, we recommend doing it in an Exchange House or a bank as it is dangerous to do it on the street.

There are Global Net ATMs in several places in Lima that accept most cards. There are ATMs and a bank officer at the university campus. We recommend using these services.

There are several shopping malls in Lima with banks, ATMs, restaurants, Peruvian souvenir shops, cinemas, clothing stores, etc.

If you need to take a taxi, it is better to contact a taxi company. There are several reliable taxi companies in Lima (Taxibeat, Easy Taxi, Uber, Taxi Satelital) that work efficiently and charge reasonable prices. We recommend installing these companies’ apps or having their contact numbers.

Vaccines

Universidad del Pacífico recommends students to get vaccinated against yellow fever if they want to travel to the Peruvian or Brazilian rainforest.
