In this course, students
will examine the past, current, and future conditions of the global sport media
nexus. They will consider the evolution of the relationship on different media
channels, from legacy (analogue) media to new (digital) media. The disruptive
nature of new media technologies such as the Internet will be analysed and how
those impact the once-sedimented symbiotic relationship between sport and
media. Particularly attention will be given to how the emergence and
consolidation of platforms – and the wider processes of platformisation – in
the sport media nexus has transformed the spectacular consumption and
production circuits in sport.
